Evaluating Bilingual/Bicultural Young Children

For All Professionals
Wednesday, October 26, 2011 ~ 8:30am – 3:45pm

Course Description

In the past decade we have learned a great deal about appropriate and effective ways to determine whether a young child has a disability. As evaluators we benefit from significant research into the accuracy of particular assessment tools in identifying whether a young child has a disability. We also can rely on the federal law that sets certain standards for the evaluation that evaluators must meet. Current preferred practice guidelines from the APA and ASHA are also instructive. This presentation uses actual cases to provide a hands-on, interactive approach with a particular focus on children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Participants will leave with strategies and tools to use in their next evaluation.
